Santa Barbara on Tap

Santa Barbara is the ultimate weekend getaway. Located along the central California coast a few hours north of Los Angeles and several hours south of San Francisco, time just seems to go a little slower and the sun seems to sign a little brighter on this little stretch of coast. When all the sunshine and salt air makes one thirsty a great little area  near the harbor Known as the “Funk Zone” by locals is the place to go. The Funk zone is host to multiple craft microbreweries, wineries, tap rooms and restaurants, making it an ideal place to lose an afternoon to indulging  the tastebuds. Here are a few of my recommendations.

Les Marchands Wine Bar

A Parisian wine bar in Santa Barbara? Les Marchands is one of the most utterly enchanting wine bars, plus it is one of the few places in the Funk Zone that is open late. The place has won awards and accolades recognizing it as one of the best places to spend an evening sipping on wine and soaking in the ambiance. Personally, I am in love with this place.

Santa Barbara Winery

This is one of my very favorite places because in addition to their rustic modern atmosphere and top notch wine, the Santa Barbara Winery has a selection of other little imported goods that pair amazingly well with their bottles. It’s a one stop shop for picking up something special to share with friends upon returning from your weekend getaway.

Figueroa Mountain Brewing Co. Tap Room

Figueroa Mountain Brewing Company makes such a huge selection of craft brew types, they make something for everyone to sip while enjoying the sun in their patio beer garden area. I’d highly recommend starting with one of their flights and including the local favorite Hoppy Poppy IPA in it. There’s just so much to taste!

Municipal Winemakers

With a wall full of filing cabinets, a chandelier made of repurposed bottles, old fashiones, and an old fashioned slide board menu, Municipal Winemakers is definitely one of the hippest little hang outs. I recommend a tasting of the variety of their house wines after which, you’ll be rung up on an old fashioned punch cash register

Corks and Crowns

I love the rustic chic feel of Corks and Crowns‘ tasting room. Wooden accents and comfy leather sofas provide a super comfortable and intimate atmosphere to taste their always rotating selection of local wines and beers.

Telegraph Brewing Company

Although Telegraph Brewing Company‘s Tasting room doesn’t look like much more than a plain warehouse on the outside, appearances are deceiving. The inside of the building is industrial chic and surprisingly inviting. The craft brews on tap range from seasonal and special edition to constant and tasters are offered so that you can experience them all!

M-Special – Goleta (Not in the Funk Zone)

Depending on whether you’re staying in Santa Barbara or Goleta, I would either start (If you’re in Santa Barbara), or end your tasting tour (if you’re staying in Goleta) at  M-Special Brewery. I had to include this brewery because it is so worth the 10 minute drive out of the Funk Zone to experience one of the newest breweries to hit Santa Barbara’s scene.  From their driftwood planters to their wooden slab flight holders, the beauty is in the details at M-Special, not to mention they have a very delicious variety of craft beers brewed on-site. It is a local favorite on weekend evenings!
